About Gerard Mapstone MMus (Perf), BMus.
Over the past 20 years of teaching I've gained much experience through helping students achieve thier goals, whether it be preparing to learn in Spain, learning to read music, getting into a tertiary institute, or helping navigate our ever changing industry.
I've been fortunate to be invited to give Master Classes and Workshops across Australia and abroad for the Melbourne University MCM & VCA, Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Bonyi International Youth Music Festival, QUT Creative Industries and the Australian Folk Federation. Thes experiences along with my own quest for knowledge have enabled me to appreciate the learning process as well as understand the various aspects of inspiration and motivation one needs.
I'm an alumni graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and have a Master of Music degree from the University of Melbourne. I've studied in Spain with flamenco guitarist José Ignacio Franco in Jerez de la Frontera, and Classical Guitar with professor Carlos Bonell at the Royal College of Music (RCM), London. I've been nominated for the Freedman Fellowship, and awarded the Queensland Conservatorium of Music Guitar Prize, all I believe have been worthwile persuits.
My lessons address an overall development of finger style guitar, and professional development in music industry. While my specialty is on flamenco and classical guitar other genres are taught; Jazz, Folk, World Music - Classical Indian, Arabic, Cuban, Latin and French Gypsy.
